Surg Tech, Clinical Resource

This position is responsible for the launch, growth and success of the specialty services of plastics, OMFS and ENT in the Salem Hospital Operating Rooms and reports to the OR Nurse Director. This position is a surgical technician, with at least 5 years of Operating Room experience and has expert knowledge in multiple specialties, focusing on plastics, ENT and OMFS. Specialties may be added or subtracted based on the needs of the unit. The coordinator will work with surgeons and schedulers to review instrument and supply needs for upcoming procedures. The position will also assist the Perioperative Educator in designing and conducting staff training of specialty procedures and equipment in collaboration with vendors. The coordinator also uses an evergreen monitoring process to assess cost effective service line use of supplies and equipment. The coordinator works under the supervision OR Director in delivering safe and effective care to the patient. The coordinator has the responsibility and authority to request and use governing and administrative resources, technological and support systems, and multidisciplinary clinical experts necessary to manage -and deliver quality, cost effective patient care. The coordinator functions as an expert with a specific surgical focus encompassing all aspects of patient, including the availability and appropriateness of equipment, standards, and competencies. If the Coordinator is a skilled and competent Surgical Technician, he/she may scrub in other services, depending on the necessity of the unit as determined by the OR Director.
Required:
Demonstrates expert knowledge of supplies and equipment needed for specialty. Demonstrates ability to perform plastics ENT and OMFS cases by continuous evaluations and presentations on the needs of the specialty. Ability to develops educational in-services. Able to obtain new skills by attending clinical educational events. Financial skills to participate in budgeting and monitoring of costs.
5 years' experience in an operating room setting. Experience in Plastics, ENT and OMFS
Certified as Surgical Technologist or meets other Education Requirements stated above.
Preferred:
Has successfully completed an accredited educational program for surgical technologists AND is certified as a surgical technologist accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies and the American College of Surgeons and the Association of Surgical Technologists; if certification as a surgical technologist has not been obtained as of the date of hire, the certification will be obtained within 12 months of the graduation date from the educational program; OR
Was employed as a surgical technologist in a surgical facility on July 1, 2013; OR
Has completed a surgical technologist training program in the military or other public service corps.Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
